As short as the Shop Gnome Deterrent's arms are, how did he reach down to grab the little buggers?

Don

They were on the workbench!

I'd be wary of unintended consequences with this particular deterrent. You could go from having a shop gnome problem to having a shop T-Rex problem.

I doubt that one of our vice-presidents acted in horror B-movies.

I doubt a dueling pistol would be effective against such a beast.

I sometimes think the gnomes and elves are not the problem.

Even better may be some bottled...

Is there a variety of shop gnome who hides in the darkest recesses of one's shop floor, deep in the corners under the shelves and cupboards, holding a powerful magnet?

Oh yes the ferrous gnomes. They leave the brass and Ali bits for the others.

Today I dropped a stainless steel part, 1/2 inch diameter, about 1/2" long into the chip try of the lathe. Something got it- I swept out the entire tray into a dust pan with a small brush and looked at every brush full.

I never found it. I have lost small parts into the chip tray, but this was so big I was sure I could find it. I had to make a new part, after spending longer looking than it took to make. Something had to grab it.

Unfortunately, it's not always them (elves, gnomes, etc.) but us. By which I mean, it's sometimes our own fault.
I can think of several times where I was blaming someone else for my glasses going missing only to be told they were on my head. Or looking for my keys only to find them in my pocket.

Don't get me wrong. I'll still blame the elves, gnomes, etc...in hopes of looking less silly.

What's really bothering me lately is, after an hour long search, finding the thing in plain sight. If the thing could talk it would have been saying..."Right here! I'm right here you dolt!".

Then which are the ones that take brass parts?  They got one of the spur gears I made a while back for my crowd engine, thought they might return it (with appropriate grafitti) after I made the replacement. It must have been an intruder gnome that Zee sent...

We need to get a shop gnome identification guide book drawn up...

Zee,
Around here the are TWO types of looking for something.....

A MAN look....... tends to be less productive in finding “missing “ items

And a W.MAN look..... tends to find ALL missing items with ease!!

 :lolb: :lolb:

The majority of this forum are on a hiding to nothing in the search department!

Think we need Chris to publish his E.H.C.... Elf Harmony Cookie ....recipe again!

Cheers  Kerrin

Enjoying a day off work & a nice cool :DrinkPint: on a rather warm humid day!
Get excited and make something!

What grind my gears is my workshop gnome  I suspect it’s female and likes to nest build because she likes shiny things .

Last week a part I had been making a good few hours when missing , forward two days of looking alas to no avail so decided to remake it , forward a couple of days went back in to the workshop gues what there were TWO part sitting in the middle of the bench one just peeping out from under a shop rag .

My deduction to this saga is that the part had tarnished and or it had sharp corners and not sutable for nest building

Or it it may just be a AGE thing at 71 going on 72 may be the cause

Have a safe and happy Xmas to you all and your families and my all your parts be on size during the new year

Stuart  :old:
My aim is for a accurate part with a good finish
