will have to hold off on the first casting run a bit,, the hard wax I used cannot be steam melted,, so the wax melt tray was ordered for the kiln this morning.. :facepalm:

working on a small brass master to make wax copies from.. the same will happen for the cleat and boathook head.. :cheers:

I reworked the support section so two parts slotted together. the now 5 parts could be held in place with one Ti clip for soldering, a few little solder blobs but might wait till the wax copies to remove them!! :cheers: once again Slim acting like he is working..

another day another master!!! turning, silver solder and lots of fine filing.. my larger wax round arrived so I can turn the boiler shell to smokestack fitting rings.. :cheers:

started turning the waxes for the boiler shell to stack fittings, turned a ring to get the stock for the hinge tabs.. lots of wax swarf or turnings, soft and light, plus you don't get slivers.. :cheers: Slim prepping for the weekend off!!!

Or he is thinking of making butt shaped candles...   :o

Tghs: if the wax can be turned to shape for the boiler/stack fittings, why not just turn them from brass? Or will those be copper? Is it a cheaper way to make the large fittings than use up a big chunk of rod stock? It will be good practice before the harder-to-make patterns are used, at least! Watching along with great interest...

the real part woould have been cast,, it also gets four lugs per piece that work as hinges so the stack can be lowered either fore or aft..
