Completely out of boredom ill share my little MacGyver for my 08 cobalt starter motor. It died on me in my own driveway (luckily), so after discovering that the wreckers wanted $180 for one they could pull out of some scrap, or the parts shop wanting $240 for a new one or $200 for a refurbished one on the condition that I surrender the old one. I decided that that little copper wire, being the only thing wrong with the entire thing, was not worth $200.
Into the garage with some threaded rod, 3 nuts and an old lawn tractor battery wire. fixed it all up and has not had an issue since.
$200 piece of copper...

The ring that the old wire was attached too lines up with the rubber grommet nicely.
Threaded rod I just cut into with the cut off wheel on the grinder on a slight angle so it wouldn't slip off easily. and grinded the end to make sure there was clearance.

Second nut on outside of the grommet to clamp the wires with the third nut.

Complete hackery with the cable, but it works.
Feel free to share any of your own MacGyver stories.
