Makers Faire

Some time ago, someone posted a message about the Maker's Faire in Detroit (I think it was).

The local library is planning a Mini Faire and I wanted to find out what these are all about.  I was planning to demonstrate a few air powered model engines if it seems to fit the genre.

Does anyone have experience with these shows?

I showed at the maker Faire in Detroit in 2010 and 2013. You will fit in real good. It's an interesting show. People build, modify, and hack some of the coolest stuff. Here are a few of the cool things I saw.

20 foot tall fire breathing dragon.




Life size mouse trap game. Instead of the cage coming down at the end and trapping the mouse, A safe drops
and crushes a car.




Metal bashers




Monster bicycle that shoots flames 20 foot in the air.




These were not models. They were the original salesmans samples of some steam engines.

Nice pics Steve. Those salesman's samples must be worth a small fortune!!  Especially if in good condition and some back up data to prove their originality. I'd be taking those to Antiques Roadshow just to find out their value.

I think they are property of the Henry Ford Museum. They host the show every year.

Thanks for the information, pictures and background guys.  This is indeed a Mini Makers Faire, being held at the library in Lititz, PA.  This town is home to a Rolex Technicum which has its own interesting history:

I think it may be a good opportunity to get some model engineering into an audience that doesn't normally seek it.

I wish someone had given me a clue when I was younger.
