NEW TOOL
« on: March 07, 2025, 09:00:43 PM »
The other day I decided that I needed more tooling. So I purchased a Phase II 8" rotary table and then I made a top plate for it out of a piece of scrap 1/2" 6061 plate then I proceeded to mount my little screwless vise to it so that I could make some round parts. It worked well so now I can make some radius parts a lot easier.

   The top plate addition to the rotab will be a very useful one. Mine has been very handy for many jobs. (but it doesn't look as nicely made as yours does! - well done.)

The rotary table is a super useful tool!  The little one I have has an adapter in the center so the lathe chuck can be screwed on, saves a lot of time to center up parts. Last fall I made another adapter plate to take collet chucks on the centerline too. That top plate on yours looks great!

The center of the rotary table has a morse taper in it so I turned a Morse taper with a end that has a 3/4" shaft which I can put into collet and quickly center the table under the spindle and if I want to get very precise I can get the indicator and put the Indicol holder around the spindle and sweep it. And Bippity Boppity Boo I am ready to start turning parts. I will take some photos if anyone wants to see it.
I also drilled and threaded some 1/4 20 holes along with some 3/8 16 holes on an X pattern in the top plate so that I can easily mount whatever to the table.

Hello
This is how I made the CENTERING PLUG for my Rotary Table:

I chucked up a small crap of round and center drilled it then I put a Taper Center pointy end into it and put the tailstock into the other end and proceeded to set the compound so that it would match the degree of taper for a Morse Taper # 3.

I then chucked up a piece of Brass and drilled and reamed a hole of 1/2".

I then chucked up a piece of steel and turned it to .500 then I pressed the piece of Brass onto the steel and proceeded to turn the taper while still having the steel shaft in the lathe. I then parted it off. It fits nice and snug into the taper in the middle of the rotary table.

It was an easy morning project and I actually hit all of the dimensions and it fits good and looks great.

Thanks for Looking
