Stan Shire
« on: February 13, 2025, 09:17:32 PM »
Yes I’m still kicking and checking in periodically. It’s with great sadness that I have to let everyone know of the passing of Stan (SSHIRE). Stan and I first met over on the other site and followed the exodus to here.  The old timers here will remember the antics and ribbing Stan and I got into; I ain’t gonna lie: for a  little while we tried to see who could get Jo the most agitated 😂😂. I was only in his presence two times, but I made a friend for life thanks to this forum. I spoke with his son after the funeral today and he said how much Stan thought of this group of people.
Thanks for the ear
Cletus

Hey there Tennessee Whisky! It's nice to hear from you, but it is for a very sad reason. Very sorry to hear about Stan's passing.  He was always a great member of this forum.  He will be missed.

Thanks for letting us know,

Great to hear that you are still around Whiskey (hope that you are doing well) and very sorry to hear that Stan has moved on the the Big Workshop in the Sky - he really added to everything here .....

But as Kim said - good of you to let us know.

Best wishes

Sad news indeed, thanks for letting us know Eric. I have often wondered why Stan left and what he has been up to, along with some others?

Very sad news for sure.  Stan was the driving force behind the MEM group gatherings at Cabin Fever years ago.  I have often wondered how he was doing.

Thanks for letting us know Eric.

Eric,
That is sad news. He was one of the people that lived near one of my vacation destinations, and was willing to have a visitor show up at his door. He was a great organizer at engine shows for the MEM crew. As I understand from conversations with folks, he went through a lot of hobbies and engines was only one of those.

R.I.P. Stan. We got to be good friends and had many good times.
Stan was instrumental in keeping me motivated to build more engines.
He also introduced me to many of you who have always been friendly and helpful.

I'm very sorry to hear this news.  Stan was a great person to talk to at the shows, and made some excellent models.

I'm sorry to hear about this. A few of us MEM types would set up together at NAMES shows and I had some very good conversations with Stan. A smart and funny guy. After he kind of "dropped out" of here, I had brief email conversations with him. He was building something like a small hand-pumped reed organ (as I remember) and we talked a bit about the design of wind chimes. Yes he had a variety of interests and I believe taught photography at university level.  --Tim
