left and right diamond tool holders

I just picked up this kit from Eccentric Engineering.   I bought the complete items,   the Right hand tool,  The left hand tool, and the grinding jig.    Considering I have enough 1/4" HSS of various brands to last the next 20 years at least, I should be in good standing, and as the tool is ground repeatably, I can sharpen them, and then set their offsets into my DRO, and have at it!....

I also intend to get some more carbide holders and inserts....but I'm battening down the hatches in preparation for the upcoming recession....so the shop funds are drying up......

Tried them out tonight!    sweet!    With normal QCTP, it's hard to get the top rake really right.  The old Armstrong holders inclined the tool perfectly, so you didn't have to waste HSS grinding it in,  but they disappeared   This tool makes that problem go away!    Much less cutting force! and Very nice finish.  I did find that I needed to go a little easy with the tools that came with it ( perfectly ground I might add...just put them in!)   I will try them with some Mo Max HSS  ( M42 cobalt)   and see how it does....  Easy means less than .07" depth of cut on a 3/4 diameter at about 600 rpm and about .005" IPR  before the front corner started to break down a bit.  ( 1144 stress proof)

about 10 days... from Australia, to the states.....which I don't think was that bad at all for the USPS.    It was not sent express....per my request....

Yeah, that wasn't bad at all.  Very similar ETA as items mailed directly from China.

One time I ordered a DVD set from amazon.UK and it was shipped from Australia for whatever reason.  Never got it as it completely disappeared on the way over and never even hit the US mainland.  Pirates?

For my lathe I would need the 3/8" (10mm) tool, as that one has a 1/2" shank size.

They've been out-of-stock on the size I need (or any popular sized version) forever.  If you notice, that's a larger LH tool.

Thanks Kim   I like leaving my toolpost squared up to the lathe axis and this tool allows me to turn and face with HSS tools.      Carbide is in my shop but not in great quantity yet    time and funds..

Yep, that is certainly one of the beauties of the tangential tool - being able to face and turn well with the same tool.  I love that!  Less tool swapping.

I have been using the M42 Cobalt that they sell with the tool and it's worked great for me for just about everything.

I use a diamond tool holder on my Myford, and it pretty much does all the turning I do without moving it.
I now use 1/4" square Stellite tool bits and they last much longer than HSS between sharpening.

Sometimes I do swap the diamond tool holder as I have two of them, the other one has a 1/4" diameter round tool bit which is very handy.

I don't bother using the sharpening jig, I just set up the T & C grinder and do a batch of tips which lasts ages, The top cutting face is not hollow ground as produced by the jig but dead flat flat. I then hone that flat face with a fine diamond file before use and I get a superb finish with them.

I'm looking forward to using my large stack of HSS rounds for this purpose!   I'll get some stellite as well...though I've been very happy with Mo Max at blue heat in a deep cut....

I've had both right- and left-hand Diamond tool holders for several years and they get more use than any other lathe tools, despite also having a good selection of TC.
Eccentric Engineering is worth following on Facebook - Garry picks up some very entertaining odd jobs that make up the "... weird stuff" mentioned on his web site. Actually, the last time I saw the back of his ute, the byline read "... and weird s**t" maybe he can't use that on the WWW?

Eccentric Engineering products are innovative and all the ones I've handled have been very well designed and made - highly recommended.

Hi Dave,
 I got mine several years ago, I got the cut off tool at the same time, with 2 blade widths, keep thinking I should get another holder but it’s not to painful to switch blades. Can recommend the cut off tool, it gets rid of a lot of but clinching!
