I only once, in college, loaned my Sheaffer to the student seated next to me in the lecture hall.  He promptly dropped it, nib first, onto the concrete floor.

There are certain acts for which murder should be not illegal but rather mandatory.

Don't ask to borrow my pens or my tools.  I can be far meaner than my gentle manner on this forum would suggest.   :lolb:

Yes, Mont Blanc is a big fountain pen, indeed, however it is probably best suited for heavy work.
On the other hand, a real fountain pen, one of grace and beauty, is a Montegrappa 1912 Reminiscence!
The correct jet black ink is a subject for discussion, since Waterman discontinued their blue-black.

The workaday engineers I know use pencils. Ink pens are for writing checks and filling out tax forms, distasteful activities for which a drug-store ballpoint is more than adequate.

A few years back, I was taking piano lessons. Seated next to my teacher on the bench, she told me to make a notation on the sheet music. I pulled out my mechanical pencil and she immediately went off: "You will NOT use an ink pen in this studio!". I had to show her that it was just a fancy pencil. It took her some minutes to come down from her instantaneous rage.

Marv, seeing where this started and and the route it has taken what do you think about a graduated depth, tapered pen holder, with adjustable OD. This way it would fit most all bottles of ink or wells and keep the pen straight and at just the correct depth in the ink for "That perfect refill". If you refill yours as I do I bet George could build us a gearbox to be driven by small wobbler that would turn the pump. :slap: :noidea:

Tim: Fountain pens enable you to be inspired, they are for writing great works of art and contributing to the knowledge of man kind.

Clearly you earn more than me because the tax man gave in sending those forms to me. It took a few years to realise that realised every time he sent me a form he had to give me a higher allowance and it was costing him money :LittleDevil:

This work a day engineer uses a white board and dry wipe pens ;)

You can kill an old duck with just about any smooth bore, but, somehow the meat does taste better if it was nice side lock Purdey. :slap: Marv I tried to turn it around with the pen thingee.

Marv, how we got from a very useful "Marvite" to fountain pens is beyond me. However, have you given any thought to that " pen filling" kit? :stir: :facepalm2:

Just as an aside I find that a good pen or even a basic pen certainly helps with writing. When writing with a ball point my writing is attrocious but with pen & ink It is neat and ledgible. It forces one to slow down and write properly. Most likely explains the writing style of todays youth if you can call it that. Most that I see battle with the cursive style and the printing is bad..... :old:

Not to mention that much of what they write is misspelled, uncapitalized, unpunctuated, and content-free.

It's all in the thumbs! One of my family members took his teenage daughter and a friend to Florida.he said he thought they were awful quite. He then realized they were texting each sitting side by side. No communication skills. Now see, I bet Marv and I could sling innuendoes at each other a lot better face to face and would be very comfortable doing it, but today it's all in the thumbs.

And by the way Marv I had to fill my pen this morning and thought  how nice it would be to set in tapered bush, lower pen in ink, crank handle and fill. To many fruit jars last night and the nib was splashing a little ink.
