This is an interesting process, is there a reason that you didn't use a sodium silicate bonded core?

decided a core mold that could handle a little abuse was in order,, waxed well, pack filled with extra, clamped together and more sand mix beat in through the 3 openings.. did a little work on the master, filled and thickened the foot, (as long as it cast fully I can thin that section back on the mill.. maybe a pour on Monday..

Thanks Jeff!
It's really starting to pop up in 3D now!  It's amazing how long you work on something and then suddenly it takes shape and looks like an engine!

Thanks Kim!  For now, its looking a bit like a bicycle!

Excellent setup. It seems very sturdy for the carving to come.
I hope you don't need that milling machine for anything else for a while. I just had to dismantle a setup to make some more t-nuts :-(

I understand that many people have successfully built Upshur's engines but that does seem a somewhat dubious design with the spark plug recessed at the end of a small hole and the limited engagement of the rocker tower holding bolt. A stud and nut would be a better solution.

Next issue to attack, the self made bracket to carry the movable chips protection.
It does no fit anymore, the supporting surface is partly gone.
The CAD model is still available and with some quick and dirty cutting and adding new volume I could get something new to send to the 3D printer.

Thanks Kim. Still fighting with the set up, but coming closer.

There was an additional machining necessary to give some space for later milling inside the crankcase.
That done both sides, given the opportunity now for the first real fixation of all at the mill.
After a small adjustment with additional shims left hand side, I archived a parallelism to the X axis with a deviation from 0,02 mm, measured at the two pins.
For me that is fine and nearly perfect.

Plugging away on the supports for the chain drum shaft, starting with the two outer ones. I got them rough sawn out and trimmed on the mill, and have drilled the holes around the perimeters to attach the bearing block and the edge flanges. Here they are standing on the base, with the shaft/worm wheel propped up where it will go:
