With the gear set done, next looked to the big support brackets that hold the shaft. After lots of measuring and digging in the racks, I found a chunk of aluminum that I can use for the thick center walls, some thin brass flat bar for the edge flanges, and some steel for the middle bracket base plate. Thought I would have to either order a piece for the two end bracket bases or cut down some sheet, then found a piece of wide 260 brass flat bar that a cousin gave me a couple years ago. Usually I avoid that crap since it cuts/drills so bad, but figured I'd use a bunch of the bar up on these simple flat plates. Well, wound up having the drill break in one of the holes when the 260 brass grabbed on and wouldn't let go!   :rant: Did get them finished up, here are all three set in place on the main base plate - the two brass ones at the sides, the steel one in the middle.

Next up will be to lay out the shapes on the ali plate for the upright walls and get them cut out - with luck the upright bandsaw will cut it okay so it just needs final trimming. The walls have a flat bottom, but the sides are all curves. I'll trim them out with the thin brass flat bar, will run in some brass screws into the ali and peen over the ends to form flush rivets to hold them in place.

And more fixuture and jig preparation today.

But theories and reality seems to be close.
At the right side, close to the tool length sensor, I had to fight for each millimeter.
The result is that left hand side, I have enough space now to use my 10 mm mini bearing probe.
Target is to check left hand and right hand side with pins if it is parallel adjusted to the X axis.
I am close to the machine Zero there, only 1 or 2 mm space, but that should be fine.
A check with a cutter has shown, there is still enough space right hand side to drive to the tool sensor without any collision. :wine1:

Join the club.........My progress is pretty poor too. I am now down to only having to go to work for two days a week, but even with all that extra free time I dont seem to get anything done in the workshop.

Too many hobbies is the problem, I play electric guitar in a rock orchestra, so have to practice for that on many evenings, when the sun is out (or rather when it's not raining) I am usually off out on my Triumph Bonneville somewhere. I still have to find some time to go out in the Morris traveller for trips out with the wife, then there is shopping, decorating, gardening, pressure washing the yard, walking the dog etc etc. And now to top it all off I have bought a piano keyboard and am learning to play that as well.

So if anyone is expecting to see Agnes running anytime soon, you might be dissappointed.  :-[

Hi Achem, always good to see the story complete. 

Perhaps you could use rechargeable batteries and connect some diodes so the generator charges the batteries when it runs.  Then when you switch on the light it would not really be fake.

It’s been a wonderful build to follow.  Thanks for showing it so well.

A member of our German Forum pushed me bit to show some electrical action also.
The generator will not give the right output for some constant light, so I got the recommendation to create some fake action too.
Here the quick and dirty final result now.

It seems to me that there is a distinct lack of common sense being applied, together with the application of "why make something simple, straightforward and accessible" when, with a little effort, you can make it unnecessarily complex, difficult, hard to access and downright awkward to all, and secretative to boot.

Unfortunately, that attitude appears all too often these days.

As there are many versions of the panniers I think you will find both finishes are represented, unless you are trying to model a particular engine is a case of pot luck.

Makes sense - the railways did pretty much everything over time...

Anyway, you can always invoke Rule 1 ("I'll run what I want to run...") :D

It's a spectacular paint job BTW. Really really nice looking. I've got some N-scale stuff here that looks like it was literally dipped in the paint pot! Your finish looks every bit as good as a top notch ready-to-run loco.
