Thanks Terry!

That looks like a nice little tool, Rich!  If I were doing any amount of glass cutting, I'd have to pick one up!

The pushrods have a slight bend near the top to clear the heads of the manifold bolts. This does not impair the operation of the pushrods. The engine is not firing at all now. The ignition timing is correct, and a sparkplug laid out on the engine deck fires quite happily as the crankshaft is being rotated. The valve timing appears to be correct. The fuel is Naptha gas, same as I use in all of my engines. I have a few more diagnostic tricks to do today to see what is wrong.

Look at the RC model suppliers for clips like fumopuc shows, used to retain fuel and exhaust hose/tube

Hi, Would these locking wire hose clips be any use to you?

If you are okay with a bit of lateral thinking ... try a search for "wire hose clamp diy".  "Clamps" made this way hold very well and look good.  I've had good results with various sizes of stainless safety wire but realize that not everyone has a roll of that sitting around.

The small band type with opening tabs , as used on small engine hoses, might be suitable. They are compact and the black coloured ones are not too visible. They're easy to install and hold well. Any small engine service shop, or Amazoon, will have several sizes. pic of the kind I mean is attached.

Brian,  I'm assuming all the elements are present, fuel/air, compression and spark? If so then start by pulling the plug on one cylinder (make sure you ground it) and try running the engine on one cylinder. If that works then repeat for the other cylinder. If you have no luck with that procedure then I don't know what to tell you.
Compression on a model engine doesn't need to be read. Just turning it over by hand will tell you if there's anything.  Are the plugs wet or dry? Advance to start out should be between 5 and 15 degrees BTDC.
