Title: Scale Hardware ?
Post by: gbritnell on November 22, 2016, 02:33:49 PM
I used to buy really small stainless hex head bolts down to .8 mm. from a supplier called Scale Hardware. They also had taps, washers and nuts in that size. I recently did a search for them and can't find anything. Does anyone know what became of them?
Thanks,
gbritnell

I get most of my small fasteners from American Model Engineering. Nice people. Mom and Pop operation.

All stainless. 0-80 and larger.
Hope this helps.

According to their home page, they are being transferred to new owners this month, hope it continues as a great source, I have gotten great stuff from them in the past.

Unfortunately this source is not currently available.  The couple that own it are trying to sell the business and do not wish to deplete their inventory.  The wife had major surgery, and as the couple is older they no longer feel they can continue to run the business.  Hopefully it will reopen after being sold.

Edit:  just saw where Wayne Godshall is taking this over.   :cartwheel:  Wayne is a good guy well known in the steam loco business (he built the boiler for my A3).  I need to order some more screws soon.

Wayne also attends CF.

Hi George

I just found this shop:
http://www.bnamodelworld.com/scale-hardware -> The shop is in Australia though...

They at least sell the screws you mentioned.

I have a set of watchmakers taps & dies that go from .3 to 1.2 mm. I'd be happy to send them to Ohio if you'd like.

Hi George,
I use http://www.microscrews-shop.nl/, the site is in Dutch but the owner speaks/writes fluent English. I can vouch for the quality of bolts, shcs, set screws, nuts and drill bits.
For those of us outside EU he will remove VAT if you email your list (his webshop can't handle no-VAT sales)

Made my Black Friday order today.  Prices same as 2016 pricelist.  Godshall acquired two additional B&S screw machines so that they can be running 3 separate products at the same time.  They've had open house the past two years at CF, and it would be interesting to see them running if they do open house again this year.

I received my order today.  Here's a comparison of #2 washers from AME and Micro Fasteners.  The latter do not scale well with scale nuts.

Thanks for the comparison picture. My AME order was delivered a couple of days ago. Now I'm working on the next one. I'm going to add a complement of washers, now that I've seen your picture.

Here's another comparison of AME vs. Microifasteners:  2-56x1" screws.

While the hex dimensions are the same, the AME head is taller.  OTOH, the Microfastener screw is full thread, and that can be useful for shortening to some precise size.
