I have posted this idea on two other sites, sosome of you chaps may have seen it allready, but here goes anyway. Fed up with trying to grind a nice small radius on HSS to get a nice finish when fly cutting i thought i would try this idea. This is a 6mm profiling lathe tool fixed in a small fly cutter (an 8mm tool would go in the larger one i have ). I was taking 0.5mm cuts at 600rpm and a moderate feed rate ( i dont have power X feed ) :( and i am well pleased with the finish. The material is brass, and a very quick rub on a sheet of 380 grit paper got rid of the milling marks no problem. The sheet of flatting paper is in one of the pics, and that cleaned up 10 faces !
Cheers Dek. :old:

Gosh Dek you read my mind, I was only thinking about this very thing this morning! I already have some round inserts but was worried they would shatter with an interrupted cut!?

This is what I've been using for quite a while, really easy to grind:

I use the same Tangential grinding jig I use for the lathe tool holder:

I was thinking about the inserts though for tougher materials.
