Just a thought, has anyone modified an old jigsaw to make a filing machine?
I have a cheapo jigsaw spare with a decent speed range, might have a go.

I am also interested in making a filing machine from a scroll saw. Picked one up at a flea market for $10! Works good as a scroll saw, so any mods I make should be able to be un-done. It has a variable speed dc motor.

I'm thinking of making a holder for various shaped needle files and maybe some sort of roller to back up larger files to stop them deflecting. The saw has a T socket so easy to change blades/files.

An excellent example here: http://www.metallmodellbau.de/feilvorrichtung.php
Be sure to file only in direction of the base plate your work piece is on!
If you want to mount the jig saw underneath then you need to get proper die filer files or use chainsaw files (e.g. from Stihl).

You may get some ideas from this one

Since die filers cut in the opposite direction from standard files, I've cut off the tang and ground the opposite end to fit in Oliver's clamp. I do get "real" ones when I find them. Victornet and Oliver carry them.

That's the sort of thing !
Thanks, I've done a few rough sketches and will give it a 'coat of looking at' before I start bolting bits together.

I have the remains of a Food processor that i thought might make the basis for a shaping/filing machine as it is quite slow and gives a good length of throw .........thats it !!
