2 axis DRO from DRO Pros is going on order Monday.....
8x40 lathe specific with magnetic scales.
I'm done with dials.....or should I say my eyes are done with dials.....
The dials on Samantha bell are 70 years old they're worn and stained....so they're hard to read ...especially splitting a line....no more

Fun! Get a landing strip for the sliegh packed down in the back yard...
-
Good for you Dave. Our old peepers need all the help they can get.

Santa is good about knowing what you want. And you've been a very good boy this year!
Congratulations, Dave!

Sounds good :)
I would check to see if the three axis display unit is the same price (they usually are). That way you have the option to add it the third axis later if you fancy and from the front they are identical.

Would that be for the compound or the tailstock Jo?
-
That's for the compound. The 3 Axis displays combine the saddle feed and the top slide to display a single Z axis measurement. You don't have to fit the top slide scale but you have the option later to add it. (and its there if you move the DRO on somewhere else later)
If they do a higher resolution read head buy that one for the X axis ;)

That’s exciting Dave! I’m looking forward to seeing the installation.

Actually, 3 axis doubles the price to $1800.....

The DRO PRO's stuff is good quality - therefore nothing comes for free! I decided 2 axis was enough. I couldn't figure a decent arrangement to get a scale on the compound slide, even the low profile ones. From my research it looks like 2 axis is the most critical and popular combo, although a standalone battery powered DRO for the quill is a pretty inexpensive and decent addition.

:o It has been a couple of years but I didn't think I paid more than £350 a set. Just checked on Fleabay (Colin advertised his there) yes Glass scaled DRO set ups £310 and £370 a set. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174239718890?hash=item28917f1dea:g:FJ8AAOSwiSpgANEy
Just wandered over to the main UK supplier of DROs: https://www.machine-dro.co.uk/lathe-kit/universal £385 for a magnetic lathe set up
Those magnetic scales must be really expensive over your side of the pond :paranoia: How dear is a Newall set up? Edit: Just checked still around £2K

Did Santa confuse Christmas with Easter
Maybe he thinks it has to arrive for Christmas 2022 :mischief:

Won't get thru customs for 10 days...so could be good for my birthday!
-
I have DRO's from Dro-Pro mounted on my lathe and my mill. I now find that I couldn't live without them.
-
I got a voice mail today.....They have lost my receipt...I have no idea what that means though Todd stated that they made a mistake on their end and they're trying to clean it up...........I gave them my card, and I've been patient for 5 months, calling monthly to confirm and to be reassured that I will be getting mine on the next order..... :killcomputer:
I have a call in to them to call me back and fill me in on the problem...and I'm not entirely sure what the problem is.......
:hellno:
Stay tuned... Sincerely.....a Not Happy Steamer.....
-
That's vexing - but I have found that they take customer service things seriously. I'm confident that they will make it right. I sure hope they will.
-
Strange, since it was supposed to be in transit. Wonder where they sent it...
:killcomputer:
-
Ok just called me back they have my re eiptand my order ND they are waiting to clear customs....
We will see when it gets here...
-
The wait will be worth it, pain in the proverbial though it is.
