After 30 years of my workshop being idle I have embarked on a clean out and refit. Mowers and rubbish all gone.
The Myford Super 7, Amolco mill attachment cleaned and oiled. The little used 10” shaper brought back to life. In the 80s I completed a Sweet Pea and a Stuart Turner vertical engine but flying and work took too much of my time to continue. The Sweet Pea was sold.
Ime now in the process of researching which milling machine I should buy. Warco, Amadeal, Chester, Axminster etc. Not likely to make a loco again but fancy something with internal combustion although I may make a small vertical to get back the skill level first. Previous project had no internet but now there is so much on line to see and learn. I am looking forward to learning from the forum.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. A visit to Amadeal in that London today. A very nice man named Hugh and his 2 lads had a VM25 mill for me to look at. It would have been rude not to buy it.

Still undecided. Apart from making sundry parts for lawn mowers, go karts etc ive done nothing of substance for quite a few years. Ide forgotten how to do stuff but watching videos on YouTube has jogged my memory. I may just make a few apprentice pieces, like simple tools before I dive into a model. The Wyvern engine does interest me.

Welcome to the forum! I think you will find a bunch of folks interested in just about anything you decide to build. And willing to throw in their 2 cents worth if you ask a question.

I think apprentice pieces are a mistake. You will make things that you will never use.
Far better would be to make something, an engine, from bar stock or a kit of castings from a firm happy to supply individual castings when you mess something up. If you produce scrap, so what. I seem to have been doing so for the last six months.

I think I will take your advice and dive straight in. I contacted Hemingway yesterday and they confirmed that they will sell individual castings if I mess up.

You can’t go wrong with an X3 mill sold by several suppliers.
The problem with most mills is the column height, by the time you have a vice on the table and a tool chuck with tool in the spindle there is not much room to play with.
The X3 has a tall square column solid as a rock
