Yes, they do get very addictive. This is what I am currently working on ... it's 6 ft wingspan when done. I have the repaint files for the Canadian version.

Thinking about card models got me thinking about a card model of one of my favorite WWI aircraft. I don't know why that popped up in my mind.
And then I made the mistake of looking to see if they're available.
I really don't need such a distraction now. I've put the idea in my 'someday' folder (which I rarely review for the very fear I mentioned). 

WWI is a fascination for me. The introduction of many terrible weapons of war and horrendous waste and damage but technology too that led to many of the (non-destructive) things we enjoy today.

The aircraft is the Albatross D-Va. One of the most beautiful machines I've seen.

But that's me and my history

I feel I should mention Fiddlers Green, which has simple paper models (mostly aircraft) that can be downloaded, printed, and built. The prices are very reasonable.
The models are small, most fitting on an 8.5x11 sheet, but once downloaded, they can be scaled up using something like Photoshop or Gimp. I have scaled up a couple. Add some nose weight for balance, and they may even fly!

As I said, these are simple models, and you won't get results like J.L no matter how hard you try. But it's a great way to get your feet wet and see if you like this kind of modelling..

And Z, they have the Albatross D5a for $4.95.. Print it and build it up in a few hours. Then do it again...

Card models can also be made from aluminum beverage cans .

There is another great alternative to the card modeling. A company called 'Metal Earth' make a wide range of laser cut and laser etched stainless steel construction kits. They can offer a wide range of architectural models. planes, trains, automobiles and much more. The stainless sheet is paper thin, with the detail features laser etched into the steels surface. All the fold lines are laser etched to half thickness. Instead of glue, they employ small tabs and holes to hold the parts together. All you need to assemble these metal kits are pair of fine pointer pliers and a lot of patience. But be warned they are very addictive, much like John found with his card models, while he was still with us. RIP

Here is one I did earlier. It is a nice representation of the famous Neuschanstein Castle in Bavaria, built by King Leopold 11 in the late 19th century. They say this castle was the inspiration for Walt Disney's fairytale castle.  We visited it a few years ago; it's even more beautiful inside, with Wagner inspired artwork painted on the walls of every room, and there are lots of rooms.











Why not give one a try? They are a great way to pass a winter's evening and the finished articles make nice presents for our lady folk.

Hi Mike,

I'm amazed at what there is to fold. It looks very good.
I've never been there. There was once a documentary about the construction of the castle 🏰 on television.
Only some of the rooms and spaces have been completed. The rest is unfinished.

Hi Mike,
a good reminder, to set "Neuschwanstein" on the touring list again.
It is nearly 120 km from my place, going on country roads along nice landscapes only.
As a retired person no problem to do it in the middle of the week now.
The last time I have been there was to be like visiting little Asia.

Takes me back to my youth - rubber band flying card models of the P40 and the Spitfire.

More lately, varying european cathedrals/castles gifted to the boys.

I have assembled several of their smaller models; a little airplane, a sailing ship, etc. They are indeed fun kits to assemble.  I can attest to that! But I've never assembled, nor even seen anything as large as the Neuschwanstein you have assembled here.  That's very nice!
