A small flycutter is quite good for indercuts like that

I'm about to make the last part which is a washer with a flat and I cannot tell where it goes and how the bolt/stud which I have just made (also with a flat which I haven't made) interracts with each other and the valve assembly as a whole. I think its where the red arrow is but the drawing is so small and unclear I just cannot tell! 

Anyone have any ideas please?

Apologies I forgot to upload the image of the actual washer and that has a note on it which led me to my possibly incorrect conclusion! 

'To suit flat on V1/25'?  ......strange!

EDIT: if you look under a microscope (see 2nd pic) I think there's a flat section at the end of the stud, for what reason, I have no idea, and as for the washer, still a mystery!!

That keeps the rocking action from loosening the nut.

Sorry I'm being a bit dim, but if I flatten the thread it still needs to have the nut on it so presumably I flatten it after winding the nut onto it and will it not also impact screwing the stud into the blind threaded hole in the cylinder?

No just file a small flat along the length of the thread on the valve block end of the stud. Just enough to get to the valley of the thread, you will still have enough to screw the nut onto.

So the flat is at the valve block end not the cylinder end as I had incorrectly pointed to on my last annotated drawing ........ then the washer fits there too which makes sense 

I made the 'mystery' washer and I believe that's all parts machined; I'm waiting on a few screws and a tool before assembly can begin; should be 'interesting' given the size and awkward location of some of the parts!

Nice picture of all the machined components of this engine arranged for inspection, and as we have seen, every bit of this model has its own little story to tell! This project has been quite a full-on specimen of model engineering.  Anyway, all sorts of snags, often due to the deficiency of the castings and of the below par drawings have been overcome, it will soon be nice to see the assembled model. Dave

The new mini dovetail cutter arrived today and made short work of cutting into the uprights; I was very careful not to go too deep and chop them off, which would have been a disaster. 

The wedge piece I made now fits nicely and now its a case of cutting it into 2 pairs and aligning the crankshaft bearings

I need to get everthing aligned so can't just align the crankshaft and then the trunnions so trying to work out the best sequence for assembly. In order to align the trunnions I need to assemble the cylinder so started with that, made gaskets and packed it as well...........lot's more to go!
