Thanks  "C". and now have made the set up for dividing the 14 hole set up and it needs a bit more tidying up to make it work properly !!

Hi "M"  thanks for that and I have now made a proper bracket for it ... Also I don't need to put the square on the other side if I put a length of bar in the tool hole at centre height and scribe a lineal the way across the cylinder covers ?!!

The 14 holes have been marked out  ,drilled and tapped 7 BA. however on reflection I think it would look better if there were 16 bolts on the larger cLP cylinder ??!! the 14 holes were specified on the drawings though !!!

Hi Michael  , I have been looking at your post at the bolts securing the standards to the cylinder block and have surmised that yes it would have been very much easier using socket head screws as you can use the Allen keys that have the ball ended hexagons on the business end so you can use it at an angle to quickly attach them ?!!  Using a spanner would have been quite tedious!!

The LP cylinder works at a lower pressure, so a wider bolt spacing makes sense?

Hi , Ok thanks yes i suppose so !! twas just thinking about the mimetic juxtaposition that i was involved with when i was at art?ART school making sculptures ??!!! Also it reduces the weight of the finished engine !

The bottom covers have been drilled and tapped and bolted on . I have not drilled the holes for the attachment to the standards as i need to accurately finish the standards and then fit them to the base and the cylinder block in the correct alignment .

Yes, However there is a lot of metal on the castings so with a few specially manufactured Jigs/Clamps they should all come out reasonably accurate , I have been fettling them first using the saw and my 14" Bastard file  and I also collect all the filings for the scrap metal chap ...

I have made the jig to begin the machining and will be used for the initial surface for the 4 cross head guides, and also drilling the holes to align the standards for further machining. the jig is quite sturdy and can be kept for other people to use in the future for this engine ...

Thanks Chris and the jig has been used till the first dimension there is a bit of casting bubbles but just on one of them. there seems to be quite a lot of slight differences in the castings and I will have to adjust the dimensions of the following parts to enable the engine to function when steamed ?!!!  also a picture of the jig

A New jig for milling the height for the standards ,   in the drawing this is 4  29/32nd" ...a tad shorter that 5 " ?!! so these are for  four of the standards however the other two are part of the condenser casting so that will be challenging ?!!!!    you can see the casting behind the bedplate pic

I am now milling the top and bottom parts of the standards using the vertical slide this is slotted into the cross slide and to help the tee bolts enter the slots I have marked them with saw cuts to position them. the standards are marked out and placed in the vice using the pointed inserts in the chuck and the tailstock, the cutter is Put in the chuck and the casting advanced using the feedscrew handle advancing .005". a lot these processes are done using the eyecrometor !

The bottom parts of the standards have been filled to size and I have placed them on the base plate .I have balanced them up with the clamps to hold them in place There is some blow holes none of them but these will not be seen. Th surface condenser will be tackled next so will have think about this item !!
