I just required a sent of casting for an unknown beam engine in gunmetal.
Does anyone have an idea which engine this is?
It has four columns, but it is not the Mary from Reeves.
Does anyone have an idea or drawings?
With kind regards,

I immediately thought they were from AtelierMB but having visited their website they don't do a model beam engine. I couldn't find their old catalogue to see if it was one they had dropped.
Its not a British design. It could be German or USA :noidea:

That was my thoughts too
I think you may have parts for more than one engine there and certainly not a whole set for a beam.
-
It looks indeed it has some parts for other engine(s)
Base plate and beam pivot table are missing and some small parts as valve chest and connecting rod.
I had also the idea it could be USA made.
-
I'm more inclined to go with German or at least European as Jo says. Those two big bearing pedestals look familiar. I can just see it now all black and blinged up brass.
-
Is there any more progress on identifying these castings?
I did wonder if they were a design by Willy Schneeberger but could not find a Beam engine design by him :-\

That's assuming the columns go with the beam.
As there seem to be parts for several engines the columns could just as easily be for some form of entablature engine.
The two largest pedestals look like they would be more suited to a horizontal engine
The beam looks like the ME beam with it's two bosses and the tear drop recessed areas, but not usually done in GM though Beng's Sophie is another possibility
And as for those spherical castings with various protrusions, who knows.

The Beam could well be a copy of the ME beam casting, Surus brought his out to check ::) The pulley is also correct for the ME beam engine.
The cylinder has "Ears" on it which means it is supporting something (piston rod guide or like in ME to support the bracket for the parallel motion) but it is too short for a Beam engine which normally has a long stroke.
A number of the bits seem "stylised" or over simplified as if for decoration. Those globes have interesting "ears" on them which must be there for some reason.
The thing that implies they go together is they are all out of the "same colour" gunmetal. :headscratch:

On the bottom row above the no 300 on the ruler is a delivery valve casting from a Lady Stephanie.
The Cylinder stroke is under 50mm, could be 1 3/4" once machined, that means around 22mm throw on the crankshaft :headscratch:

I think I may know what the spherical items are, look at this engine and the housing for the governor bevels. Also has a similar style of bearing pedestal.
-
I had also the idea it could be the governer housing. But why 2? I have tried to search the internet in english an german but no results for now. I still hope somebody can give the answer. Otherwise it will be a free-lance engine. Beam or inverted.

Maybe this layout helps?

I found this drawing on the internet.
It looks like it may be a 4 column beam engine.
May be this might help.
