Facebook marketplace or eBay? I have a ton of stuff to sell

As the title says, I have a ton of stuff to sell. Woodwind instruments, books, records, synthesisers, three Austin Seven cars, etc.

My sister suggested Facebook marketplace. Many people on other forums seem to use eBay. I have used neither. What say you?

I haven't got any model engineering stuff to sell, sorry!

For stuff that is mostly of local interest like books and records marketplace is best. Stuff that is more likely to sell further away, like special interest cars then eBay is best. One advantage of marketplace is that it is free and eBay may involve a fee. Some things could be listed both places.

Be careful selling anything on any social media sites there are so many scammers around. So cash on collection only.

Fleabay does not charge private sellers for most things (cars are an exception) they charge the buyer. They have lower postage rate deals than you are likely to get with the usual suspects.

Or get in touch with Sam Battle (aka Look Mum No Computer/Look Mum No Engine on YouTube) of Eurovision 2026 fame (infamy?) - he's got a couple of Austin 7s, and I bet he'd take a couple more!

He runs "This Museum Is Not Obsolete" in Margate, Kent - amongst a zillion other hobbies - honestly I don't know how he keeps up with his own life, let alone document all the stuff he does.

Thanks to all for the replies. I have now prepared a dozen photos of the stuff I have for sale, not the cars, just the rest of it. I've been putting off joining f-book and ebay, but I have such a mixture to sell, it seems logical to sign up.

You don't have to participate in the main Facebook forums. I watch marketplace but seldom look at the main forum pages. In the past I watched and participated in the forums but they became too mean and divisive so I seldom look at them. After being attacked several time for what should have been non controversial remarks I decided that I did not need that so I stopped participating.

I had heard that about f-book, but can't think of any reason why I would want to participate. So I won't let that put me off. Plus, I hope, if I can sell all my treasure, including the cars, then I will be on my way to selling the house and down-sizing. That means moving, and that means I won't need f-book any more.

I have trawled my way through ebay several times, but not marketplace. I am steeling myself.

The biggest hurdle for eBay use now is the draconian requirements to send stuff to the US from Canada. I used to have a list of countries I wouldn't sell to, the US is now on that list :-(
FB Marketplace is good for local, no shipping and packing required. Meet somewhere in public, take someone with you if you feel uncomfortable. And cash, not eTransfers unless you can see the auto deposit notification from your bank before handing over the goods.

You could also try https://Gumtree.co.uk, used to owned by eBay until approx 2020. The Canadian version, https://kijiji.ca, is free.

I hadn't thought of Gumtree! I have an aversion to "joining" sites such as f-book, eBay etc. So I have my own personal hurdle to clear, although it can't be much different than joining the forums I belong to.

The postage problem might not be an issue as most of the things I am selling are too big/delicate to send to buyers, and should be examined in person.
I am hoping any buyer will come to me, with cash!
