Proxxon co-ordinate drilling machine

Here’s a little project to build a good quality drilling machine!

I’ve had the Pf milling head attached to my Pd lathe for a good while and used it mostly for drilling as milling is very hard on the carriage ect …

So I needed a good x y table for a reasonable price, The proxxon one is over £300…… no backlash adjustment, non ball screw ect just hobby grade, not what I was looking for!

I brought a cheap heavy x y table and milled a vertical slot to the rear to mount the head, removed burrs ect and assembled correctly it worked fine :)

The nodd measured good so I carried on and mounted a cheap dro for every day type work, it’s good across 5mm each way , a lot more travel and it’s off by a few percentage, Not that I would rely on one device for bigger distances in any case !

So it’s worked well, around £100 total cost ex the mill head
I’ll get a good amount of use and convince, Hopefully if anyone else has a similar idea thus may help

Interesting build....I cansee where you would need the mill/drill to stand separate from the lathe, must make the workshop more flexible to use
