After Snooping through other peoples shop pictures, I decided it was time to make some proper homes for some of the lathe toys.
Just plopping them in the drawer of the tool box or leaving them on and around the lathe wasn't helping the clutter.
So I figured I would give the printer a shot..
The printed holders seem to be strong enough.
That murphy guy showed up and threw a gremlin into the gears however... the printer stopped working properly and would just stop without any errors or warning midway at what seemed to be completely random times. After much investigation and troubleshooting, I did find the problem... The power wire to the print bed broke where it bends frequently moving back and forth. :zap:
So I must buy a new soldering iron to replace the wires..

I like the little dovetailed holders for the lathe tools, thats clever! It would get rid of the pile behind my lathe... hmmm!

Very nice!
I'm thinking now that I have a 3d printer I'm going to have to do another round of shop organizing sometime. Not sure when, but I'm feeling the itch!

I think everyone knows that itch far too much =) Its worse when you have a plan and the itch but no money to throw at it..
Ended up buying me a new soldering iron to fix the printer, it was delivered this morning and that itch hit.
Printer is back up and running now making more toys for the wall =)

Just had a thought - if I made some of those lathe-tool holders and mounted them on the wall next to my lathe, it would both clean up the bench and give the elves some excercise as they could use it as a climbing wall!

I am thinking about removing them now and mounting them on a piece of plywood, in case I have to move them all at some point. Would be much easier to move the plywood then all of them.

Good idea!

Almost done, just waiting for the last one to print and to put it on the wall.
I left a little space at the bottom, maybe for a printed shelf for the inserts..

Great idea - I made my set up and got them mounted on a board today, works out great! This will keep a lot of clutter off the bench, and make it easier to vacuum up the chips behind the lathe.

I made mine about 1/2" or so tall, enough to keep the holders in place but quick to print.

Thanks for the idea! I want to do the drill chuck and center holder next.

So Iv decided to borrow your version of it, But I kept the height of my original and added a wider bottom lip.
Overall the change reduced the print time by about 2 hours.
Its too bad you posted it after I printed them all. So ill keep the original on the wall. (for now)
I am printing a bunch of the new one for my old man as he uses the same holders.
