Title: Oliver Mercedes tether car
Post by: Old School on March 24, 2020, 07:02:02 AM
This an Oliver Mercedes tether car, built from castings. The castings are from the original pattern.
The engine is a Redfin 2.5cc twinshaft diesel a modern copy of the original Oliver.

Hello Oldschool

Love your Mercedes car. It looks like the castings were based on the W154 as it appeared in 1938 with the big wide radiator opening.

The following year, they redid the bodywork with a longer nose and a smaller, neater air intake.

Any more photos?

Now I really get nostalgic (not that I ever saw one in the flesh - only in Dads magazines)  :old:

Please some with the "Top off" too - so we can see the internal build

Just love the lines of that merc. Last year at our model society there was some tether cars on show mostly homebrewed castings, sadly the gentleman wasn't there on the sunday so didn't have time for a good peruse and chinwag.

Thank you for the pictures  :)

I'm guessing the the axle on the side without a carburator "is just freewheeling" or is it "linked" to the crank on the other side ?

I do not see it clearly in this small size (eyes not what they used to be) .... but I'm kind of missing the cut-off valve - is that "the thing" on top off the engine box or is that an external fuel needle ?

The engine drives both wheels the cranks are connected, the picture is upside down for some reason. The shut off is the brass block next to the cylinder head. Needle valve is at the rear of the engine the venturi pokes out of the side of the car.
