I'm building my first IC engine and I'm finding Malcolm Stride's Book entitled "Miniature Internal Combustion Engines" to have a lot of useful (to me, as a beginner) information. It shows a lot of detail on 2 and 4 stroke engine designs, valve timing and general engine construction.
Cheers,
Phil

Hi Phil, I bought that book last year as I plan to make his 15cc engine which is shown in it. It's a great book just for the general knowledge that's in it.

I have ordered a copy as well along with Ivan Law's book on gear cutting that others have referenced here. Thanks for the recommendation.

For anyone interested in designing their own 4 Stroke engines I would recommend L C Masons's "Model 4-Stroke Gasoline Engines". He gives a lot of useful rule of thumb proportions to use when designing engines. These rules can often be of help when up-dating an older design. The chapters cover all aspects of the 4-stroke engine from con-rods to carburation. Plus there are also some very good views of his 4cc in-line 4 cylinder engine with 4BA spark-plugs and Mastiff his flat four side valve.
My best regards
