Which way does the molten metal flow?
airmodel:
--- Quote ---I fixed it for you, doing exactly what Chris suggested. I removed the [ youtube] [ /youtube] tags. And now it works. There was actually TWO versioins of the link embedded in a row, and that migth have been causing issues too.
I think it's working now, though!

Thanks for fixing that problem and I will have to try that fix in the future.

--- Quote ---I suppose once the cross section of the gates equals the cross section of the runner the flow will be restricted by what can flow along the runner so you can't get out more than you are putting into the runner.
Your runner is probably 450mm2, the knife gate almost double that at around 900mm2. What size were the 4 individual gates you cut?
Edit, thinking some more the knife gate was actually filling the cavity with two areas 3 x 20 so only about 120mm2
In production they no doubt have the time to optimise the gate sizes to get the flow that they want but for our sort of one off or small batches it is down the the experience of the caster as to what will likely work.

I think you are right and to add to what you posted I am sure that the end gates are not completely filled up because of metal momentum forcing the molten metal to one side of the gate.
Gates are about the size of my thumb and maybe too large for the runner to fill them up.
