Restoration of Model Engines / Re: D.Maggs - workshop engine« Last post by redhouseluv on Today at 08:08:47 PM »Here's the feed pump from the Stuart no.9 I made a few years ago - In your second picture the air reservoir is very much along the lines I'm thinking of.
I've started to clean the flashing from the pump body casting and I think I'll proceed with it using a basic design, extending the body - I've just looked at how much Stuart's charge for a new set - eye watering!!!! I got mine at a fraction of the price from eBay and don't want to mess it up and I think if I can make work using the original eccentric and machine a bulbous air reservoir I'll be happy ![]() 3
Specific Engine Help / Re: Bell Cranks« Last post by PaulR on Today at 07:50:45 PM »On many full size engines they were able to do without the slots or extra links since the valve travel was very short in relation to the length of the crank arm, so the slight slop in the gland packing let the valve rod take up the tiny offset movements. I've done the same on a few models, they work just fine with no slots on the arm. Worth doing the math on your design to see if you need the slots, if the offset movement is only a couple thou you can skip them. If the crank travel is very large, I'd go with the link since the slot would bind slightly when at the ends of the travel.Great advice, much appreciated. 4
Your Own Design / Re: Chris's New Steering Engine« Last post by PaulR on Today at 07:48:32 PM »Fantastic, I love the chunkiness of it and that wheel looks really satisfying to use... one day I'll make an engine that has something to twiddle even if it's only a reversing valve or throttle!

Chatterbox / Sunset Cruise (Chug)« Last post by Roger B on Today at 07:23:40 PM »We were on holiday in Istria and for her birthday Pauline wanted to go on a sunset cruise. We looked at what was on offer and decided on a 1960 wooden boat. We climbed on board, the skipper cranked the two cylinder diesel and off we chugged.

Restoration of Model Engines / Re: D.Maggs - workshop engine« Last post by Michael S. on Today at 07:17:31 PM »Unfortunately, I can't give you a finished blueprint, but maybe a few suggestions.
The pump from the Stuart 9 would be perfect in terms of design. With a few pieces of brass or bronze and brazing solder, you could make something. It would fit the eccentric hub perfectly. Best regards, Michael 9
