That has made this elderly engine into a nicely displayable and interesting model. Your own additions to the engine go well with it, and the unpainted presentation looks quite appealing I think, stresses the "engineering" character of the build. Dave

Thanks all - it's always a balance with these old engines of 'what to do' and 'what not do'; this one was in a really poor state and was clearly missing the reversing mechanism so that needed doing. I also felt like the old girl could do with a general spruce up and few new things like the cylinder insulation wouldn't go amiss, but she needed to be left unpainted to show her age

Hopefully, in time, another generation will preserve and enjoy some of these engines which I have enjoyed restoring  :ThumbsUp:  :)

I think you are achieving a judicious balance between conservation and restoration.
