Bad news Dave,

Well, You did not get it from me.

You can look forward to 7 to 10 days, in isolation, before you test negative (no longer contagious), then several more weeks of coughing and fatigue. Don't know what comes next... not got that far yet

Take care and isolate, even a closed bedroom door is enough to contain it.

Look after yourself Dave. Time is the great healer.

Thankfully I am still avoiding it  :paranoia:

Sorry to hear that, Dave :(

Take care of yourself and get better!  Hopefully, you've had the vaccines - the say people who've been vaccinated tend to get much lighter cases and recover more quickly with fewer complications.  I'm going with that!

Best of luck to you and your family!

Its a type of dna test, confirms if its really covid, snd which strain. The quick tests are not as accurate, more false positive and negative results. Pcr is more expensive and takes longer but is more accurate.

Sorry to hear that Dave. Hope you clear it fast. I had all my shots and it only lasted a day and a half. Bit of a runny nose and a headache for about 8 hours. Hope it's just as mild for you bud!

Yes avoiding giving to my daughter is the big challenge.    She's a recent cancer survivor and is immo compromised.    She is vaccinated....but we will see.

I really appreciate the good wishes....

Thank you

My advice is not to be ambitious about it. SWMBO and I are in our late sixties and triple jabbed. I had a severe sore throat and general flueyness: herself slightly worse, taking one whole day in bed and sleeping most of it. In spite of getting off pretty lightly, we found we needed to take things slowly for two or three weeks afterwards, and for a few months afterwards we would each have an odd day when we had no go.

Day 3 and the only symptom now is tiredness. As an early riser it affects me more than anything else as by the time I drag myself out of bed it seems the day is over. Almost 74 and double jabbed but no faith in a rushed vaccine but I'll leave it at that.

I've heard of lots of people who had an adverse reaction to their third booster, with something like 1 in 20 getting longer effects. I've still got problems with my ears from when I had it 10 months on.

I thought these vaccines had emergency approval due to it being a pandemic now that we are hearing that it is no longer a pandemic but we have to live with it as an epidemic I would have thought that the vaccines need to go through standard approval.

I too are seriously questioning a fourth booster.  :paranoia:

my wife, who has an immunosuppressive treatment, measures from time to time the level of anticovid antibodies in her blood, a simple blood test among other controls; this level varies from 150 units to 5000 after a vaccine boost, and still more than 8000 after we had covid 3 months ago, (a short covid : 2 days with fever, and 2 weeks of tiredness)...hence the covid is better to increase the antibody level in the blood !
the test is simple and not expensive, and very informative to see if one needs a boost.

But Jo, we need to remember it was the vaccine and boosters which reduced the severity and deadliness of this disease; reducing it from a deadly pandemic to a survivable epidemic status.  We must all make our own decisions regarding how to manage the risks and any adverse reactions.

I had three/ four days of flu like fever before the endless coughing started; very sore throat and lost my voice for days. Now, three and a half weeks later, I am still coughing, six hours a day, and still too tired to even think about the workshop. I am also having problems with my ears. I was going deaf before but since the infection, I have almost no hearing.

Speak up, I cannot hear you.   :Director:

Very sorry to learn of Mike's travails with the disease, and wish him and others who have had difficulty a speedy improvement back to normal enjoyment of life.   For what it is worth as a comment, I had my forth Covid booster jab on Sunday, have felt no effects from it at all, short term or after nearly a week which has included a few longer bike rides as well as usual activity.  Perhaps I have just been lucky.., though I have had no problems with any of the Covid injections.  Dave

i have had the 4 shots  no problems  would hardly felt any of them   it is only because of that that i did not get covit
i was called in to work for a short time only to be told the next day the person i worked with range in positive the next day .
i came up with mild symptoms but tested negative    .the night shift all were positive by the end of the week.
can only be short time of exposure and vaccination that i missed out.what ever the vaccination they gave me i had no problems .

Hello David, it is interesting for me to hear from you that you also had problems with blood pressure. I felt the same way. Very high blood pressure with nosebleeds. The bleeding wouldn't stop and I had to go to the hospital. The doctors there said it had nothing to do with the vaccination. Since then I've been taking pills for high blood pressure. Never had problems with it before.

Very true, we must all make our own decisions based on our level of risk, life style and subsequent exposure etc. None of my blood relatives have had covid or if we had we had it it caused no symptoms and we don't get the flu either. We have however in the family had reactions to the jab, the worst case was my mother whose existing condition was aggravated for months after each of her vaccine shots for which the hospital had to intervene in and has been advised not to have any more of the covid jabs.

Long term protection from infection is provided by your B and T cells (lymphocytes) which generate the antibodies rather than needing to have every type of antibody floating round in your blood at all times. It is just if the antibodies are already there in sufficient numbers they will be able to attack the virus quicker, in theory meaning you should get a shorter/less severe infection.

Useless fact of the day: the half life of Covid antibodies is 36 days  ::)

My blood pressure is a bit high to begin with   150/75....there abouts   I check it daily....that's why I'm not getting another booster,  it was more than a feeling, my blood pressure climbed right off the chart.    that said, The virus has mutated, as they all do, into a more contagious, yet more "benign" form, such that for me, the risks outweigh the rewards...IMHO.   for ME.

And I checked it with my Doctor, and a big jump in blood pressure is a common side effect of the boosters at least.   He's OK with me skipping the boosters.

Dave

Good to check with your Doctor!

I have high blood pressure and have been taking meds for it for many years.  I haven't noticed an effect on my BP when I've had the Covid shots.

I had the latest bi-variant covid booster about 2 weeks back.  The only side effect for me was a soreness in the arm where I got the shot.  But now I feel much better about being out and about since this booster covers the omicron variant in addition to the original one.

But yes, we all have to make the decision for ourselves! (Hopefully with your doctor's input!).

I also have gotten the latest updated booster, also nothing other than the usual sore spot from the needle. Given the extra travelling and shows I am doing this year I wanted the extra protection, as far as I know I have not had the infection, at least nothing noticeable.  What I was told is that the blood pressure spike happens in some people but is usually (key word usually) temporary and goes away in a couple days at most. Everyone is a little different though and reactions vary.

Yes the blood pressure spike is not on everyone, and it's not permanent,  However.....200/130 is not good  ( that was actually measured as I have the sphygmomanometer for my daily checks...

No thanks.....not for me anyway

Wonderful to hear, Dave!

So, does "clean" mean the test comes back negative, or that you have no more lingering symptoms?  Or both? (neither? :))

It's an excellent sign in either case!
