I'm in Berlin for the weekend and managed to sneak in a trip to the German Museum of Technology - well worth a trip. Here's some pictures

Do you know what that last engine is? Looks like an oscillating  paddlewheel  engine, but is it a Maudslay, Penn, other?

1. Go there, take 2 bazillion measurements.


2. Hide till after hours, dismantle and measure inside parts.


3. Run like they are chasing you. They are!




After the slew/crowd engines, my next build is the engine from the Diesbar, which is very similar  to this one...

I like the plan, I just hope prison workshops are well kitted out these days

Yes, the museum is very interesting. There aren't many stationary steam engines, but the maritime section has some nice ones. The number of steam locomotives, however, is very large. Two big roundhouses full of steam locomotives and other railway vehicles. An exhibition of model steam engines is planned for September. I'll be there.

I have been to the Deutsches Museum in Munich a couple of times but I haven't got to Berlin yet.

Interestingly the Lathe looks to be a Whitworth.

Thanks for posting this excellent selection of photos, Sanjay. The beam engine, though a compound, is very closely of the style and format of the Stuart Major Beam, encouraging to see that the model has kept closely to the features of actual prototype medium size and power engines of the 1860's ( ?) period.  I'll look forward to your build of the splendid paddle steamer engine in a little while!  Dave

It's a shame you did not have the time available to visit the upper floors and explore the aviation section. There are some truly magnificent engines on display. Like this 'exploded' Argus As 410, which inspired me to do something similar with one of my Bristol Mercury engines.
 


Maybe, next time you are in Berlin?
