hooping things up!!! my stock on hand was to narrow,, so it was off to cut stock and make patterns. made one hoop, but thinking that annealing the pile of stock first might be better,,

How are you joining the ends of the hoops?

And you need to make Slim a set of coopers tools for seating the hoops, mallets, etc.

silver solder, all the joints will be on the underside,, shaped a Ti clip to hold the small sections together, it worked well...

Slim looks to be eyeing a nice stack of spare ribs...

So you are edge setting them, then rolling into the loop shape?

hand forming them around the core plug and cask, marking the length a bit tight, soldering and then tapping in place, with the annealing and soldering heats they seem to work nicely, maybe a bit of harder hammering at the joint on the anvil horn, have a good fit on the two outer hoops, the middle hoops once fitted will need the handle brackets soldered in place.. it would really tough if they were actually holding things together!!!

basic hoops are done, handle brackets still need to be added.. the new toys arrived looks as nice as the others, a little bit of the ultra-fine diamond hone and it should be good to go..

some small turning of dogwood for the handles, a little more soldering for the handle brackets, buffed up the hoops and CA'd in place,, just need a bit of varnish and to make the stand, (plans for that are also in the book) have to stop at the craft store to see if they have some fine chain for the spigot stopper..

after converting all the measurement of the cask stand/holder I realized that it was for the open rowed boats and was designed to set on the keel and fit the bottom hull shape, made a quick stand much like the restored 40ftr.. busy at work but did get a 200+ amazon gift card, lots of  " I could use that" tools and storage boxes on the way :whoohoo: Slim has not yet filled the cask.. (going to try to tint some clear poly with powdered stains to match the period spar varnish)
