Wow!!  There's lots there to choose from John...could take a while just to read through them all :) This whole thread has me hungry now,may have to break out the bread maker tonight. I have to agree with Jadecy...store bought bread here in the US (especially white bread) is pretty tasteless, there are a few whole grain commercial breads that aren't bad but also more expensive. Has anyone else noticed that the size of the store bought slices (unlike the price) seems to be getting smaller and smaller?

Yup...wish I had my Grandfather's recipe....which was my Grandmother's ......Good Bread!

Can't cook it in the woodstove though....and I think that had a play on the taste......

fresh home made bread never lasts more than a day with me!
with winter coming I think there is no finer meal than a thick homemade soup served with crusty homemade bread.

One of the great joys of cruising in the remote Bahama Out Islands was the bread.  Almost every small settlement included a baker that depended on visiting cruisers to put a little extra cash in the kitty.  All of it was good, some of it was great!  In the larger settlements that could support a small general store and had more visiting boats, the variety was wider.  Crusty, soft wheat, cinammon, coconut.  I had a bread maker on the boat but it only got used in the really remote, uninhabited islands.

What more could a man ask for GTX lamb and Dulux chops.People just don't know what they are missing just don't over cook the paint it stinks :stir: :ThumbsUp:
You should try the deep pans they are great for boiling hull planks but be careful with pine the resin is a beggar to get of the pan but the house does smell very nice :LittleDevil:

I've baked again tonight as the bread keeps vanishing. I think I've got mice.
My recipe is:
2 lb wholemeal flour
2 sachets easy yeast
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
4 tbs cooking oil
approx 1 3/4 pints warm water

Gas mark 8 for 35 mins, remove crankcases from oven first.

Is that a Panther M120 I see Ian :Lol: have been a Royal Oilfield fan myself  they are better than those Best Scrap Available machines :LittleDevil:

M100, so it's only a 600cc cylinder. The bread should be alright, I've had 25 years practice.

Thought you might like a picture!



300 ccs tepid water.
1Tbsp skimmed milk powder
2 Tbsp olive oil
1 Tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
500 gm strong white bread flour
100 gm wholemeal seed and grain bread flour
1 1/2 tsp quick yeast

Bread machine dough setting (90 mins)

divide into 10 baps
rise covered, for 1 hour
fan oven 35 mins @ 130 C

When I was 5 I would walk up the street to my Grandfathers house on Saturday mornings, walk in and sit down at the kitchen table of the 250 year old "Salt box" which is a very famous style of house here in the Northeast.    The wood burning kitchen stove would be going and the smell of fresh bread was in the air.....on the window sill with the open window would be a pitcher of Goats milk...cooling....because it was fresh...from the goat!
