Hi
Thanks Roger, Zephyrin and Terry
Yes its brilliant to finally get her running. We, Julian and I, are going to the club again tomorrow for some more testing. Julian will be taking his Simplex.
Just a note to clarify a point to anyone starting out on a loco build that although Conway was 5 years from start to finish it wasn't 5 years to build. I was in full time employment for the first two years followed by another year of part time work. There were many periods of inactivity (I am easily distracted and tend to drift off in all sorts of directions) plus the usual domestic duties, child minding (I have 3 grand daughters) and holidays etc. plus I succumbed to the dreaded covid virus twice.
Tomorrows job is try different types of coal. The small grain size burns well and gives a good fire but doesn't last very long, Conway eats it. The slightly larger bean size lasts longer but needs a good fire with the grain before attempting to use it. We did have a quick test on Julians test track with some domestic smokeless coal broken into pieces that just fit through the fire hole door and that worked ok so will be tested on the club track.
Cheers
Rich
