AOG's Liney 5 Completed
« on: November 21, 2016, 01:33:50 AM »
My Liney 5 is complete. I would love to tell you it's a runner but I can't. It uses more air than my little compressor can provide. I have sealed it up as best as I can but I still can't get enough flow to keep it turning.

Till next time

Tony

Tony,
Bummer on it not running. Couple of thoughts...are the springs strong enough? If not the pressure could be pushing the cylinders away from the back plate and losing air there. Sometimes less pressure is better than too much on oscillating engines for just that reason.

Hope you get it sorted out, just hang in there, it will work !!

Tony,

That's a pity that it doesn't run straight away but after you've spent time building it it's got to be worth tinkering about with it till it does work I'll bet it doesn't need much work to get it going.

Is there anyway you can isolate the cylinders and just test each one individually will it run on 3 cylinders for example ?  Will it help if you swap the cylinders around ?

It looks to me like the cylinder nearest the camera isn't seating squarely - can you perhaps mill a bit of relief in the cylinder face or the port face to allow it to sit more flush ?

Peter.

Peter called it. The fasteners for the intake manifold were sitting proud of the frame on the cylinder side. I couldn't see it but when I ran my finger over that area I could feel then. They were also starting to score the cylinder faces. I took it all apart ,shortened the fasteners and relapped the surfaces. I also used some silicone gasket compound to improve the sealing of the manifold. As a result we have a runner. I can only get 20-30 seconds of run time on my compressor tank but it runs.

Till next time

Tony

That is great Tony. Glad you got it sorted out...its often just something small as in this case.

Nice one Tony, glad you got it sorted ok  :) I can imagine with 5 cylinders it's quite powerful for its size.

Have you decided on your next project yet ?

Peter
