Hi guys,

in need of thoughts with the port on the cylinder. While drilling tthe last hole from the bore to the port the angle of the vice moved as you can see from the photo.
Would you alter the valve slide or tap and plug the hole and redrill ?

On the plus side while cylinder was on the barrel it passed 2nd hydraulic test so very happy with that.

I think I would be inclined to mill a pocket 2-3mm deep that is a bit wider than the valve and a longer than it's extents of travel and then JBWeld & CSK screw in a thin Cast Iron plate that has had the ports cut into it into the pocket.

Hi Jason ,

Thanks for your reply, That is something I wouldn't have thought of.
However it wouldn't help in this case as it was the drill the broke though the port face not a slip with the mill, so although it would tidy up the face it would also block the hole and if I drilled it would follow the same path and I'm back to square one.
So I did tap and thread a new piece of steel in and silver solder either end. Once it was cold I flatted off  both faces repositioned in tilting vice (securely locked this time ) and re-drilled then just cleaned out the ports.
Your suggestion is locked away if ever the need arises. Nice one
