I don't recall that one Bob! - must have been done before mid-2009

She's a sweet runner - well done!

Kind regards, Arnold

Building an engine takes Patience, Planning, Preparation and Machining.
Procrastination is nearly the same, but it precludes machining.
Thus, an engine will only be built once the procrastination stops and the machining begins!

Hi Bob

I love small IC's and particularly diesels :).  That's a nice looking side port you've made there - a very nice sounding smooth runner.

Can you tell us what the design is and whether that crankcase was from a casting or machined from solid?

Very nice work

Hi Ramon,

I bought the plans from EJ winter in NSW Oz and it says the design is by OB Bolton. I believe there is also a series of articles in some 1930's Model Engineer magazines written by an Englishman so who copied who, I don't know.

Whilst at some stage castings were/are? available I machined it all from barstock.

Thanks for your interest and kind words  :NotWorthy:

Best Regards
Bob

OK a little more on the engine

The construction series was published in Model Engineer in 1947 by "Battiwallah"

Volume 96. Issues 2394, 2395, 2396 and 2398. Pages 431,472,505 and 572.

I have been unable to find out who Battiwallah was but it's a clever pun on British/Indian army slang. Punkahwallah - Fan operator, Charwallah - tea boy. Battiwallah - strange/crazy boy.

Best Regards

Thanks for the info Bob,

I have a good friend who has an extensive collection of ME mags and somewhat opportunely he rang this morning. He thinks he may have them and is going to look for me.

Another one on the list ;)
