Very sad to know that John has gone from us.  His work was beautiful, meticulous and original, and his modest and gentlemanly contributions to this forum were superbly done and very enjoyable.   Dave

I'm sorry to hear the news. John was one who could definitely claim the title "Modelmaker." He was also the one whose latest installment was always a must read and "well looked forward to."

Tom says John "lost his ongoing battle with Cancer". Besides feeling sad from the news I'm sad that I did not know of his battle before, some how delinquent in not knowing. I found his dioramas to be amazing. He and his work will be missed.

It is with great sadness that I have to add to this thread to say that my very good friend passed away yesterday. He lost his ongoing battle with Cancer. John Madill had one of the most inventive minds I have ever know, and I will miss his dry humor and incredible imagination.

RIP Old Friend!

John kept his battle very quiet. Only a very few knew of it. He was a very private man in some regards, but loved to share his model making with other modellers. The paper models that he made were wonderful to look at, and the detail he added was always well thought out, and executed perfectly.

John did mention his health problems and also what to do with his models briefly in the past. I hope they and he end up in a good place, his attention to detail was always amazing  :)
Best regards

Roger

A sad day it is indeed. I truly was in awe of John's talents in bringing small scale to real life. I did not know the man personally, only through this portal, but I always looked forward to seeing his next installment as there was something to be learned each and every time he shared his work. He will be remembered by us all.
