I thought a guy could engrave markings around the circumference and a line across the face to dial in the height. I bet Lee Valley Tools would produce it.

The scale would need to be sinusoidal.  Given the trouble some folks have working with a linear scale...

But it would be something new and, if made sufficiently shiny in a selection of designer colors, it just might sell.

I was wondering about that. Manually calculating it is beyond my abilities, but I could map it out with a CAD program...

I'll let you know when the cheque is in the mail.
