Barneydog:
Hi,

My latest projects are many and varied.
Firstly I am due to build a small steam engine complete with all controls and gas tank and burner for a 2ft clyde steamer being built by a friend. Started to build but now have to start again and was waiting for materials to "appear". Most have now arrived from the 'metal fairy'.

Following on from building my own CNC conversions on my X1 mill and a C0 baby lathe I am at present building a router table. Its got a machine area of 850mm by 625mm so should add versatility to my workshop. I hope to use it to make some pocket money to buy materials for other projects and to cut some of the bigger parts for some of my projects. Due to the crap weather we have seen most if not all the steam fairs have been cancelled. Myself and my mate Firebird buy large amounts of metal and bits from these shows. Looks like we will have to pay the money this year for the new stuff.

Once I start the steam engine again I will post its build. I am in the process of re-design at the moment. I thought of building Bogstandards Paddleduck but would need to reduce its overall size.......not decided yet. It needs to be small but powerful and as simple as posible to maintain and use as my mate is 'technologically challenged' and understands nothing about a steam engine. Also all the boat clubs around here are very fussy who builds and how.

As the router table developes I can post that if you guys are interested. Let me know. Its a scratch-build that changes as I build it with no designs or plans just a 3d picture in my head.

Barneydog:
Just noticed this section states the forum is for engine builds only.

Can we have a machine section as many are made or modified to build engines?

Julian.

Bogstandard:
Julian,

We are working on getting all the headings correct, within reason at this time, there WILL be an area for machining and tooling etc, it just takes a little time to organise ourselves.

These will all be put into action over the coming days and weeks.

Just put your posts into what you think is nearly appropriate, we can move them around later.

John

Firebird:
Hi mate

I have seen the cnc router table Julian is building and it is impressive. I'm sure there will be plenty of folks here who will want to see it as well. Keep us posted.

Cheers

Rich

PS a section for cnc would be good

Bogstandard:
Rich,

Unfortunately, admin have come to the conclusion that this should be a site for model engines, and not have major dealings in machinery or modding of such, unless it is just a small part that might be of interest to engine builders, say like toolpost holders etc etc. Those larger conversions or modding and making adventures would be better off being shown on somewhere like MadModder, which sort of specialises in things like that.

We don't want to tread on toes here, and having a site like MM close to our heart could be very beneficial in the long run, even though myself am banned from ever posting on there, I still recognise the value of that site, and other sites, to our members.

We are not saying that the engineering side will be ignored, nor CNC either, far from it, as that is a major factor in what we do, but it really should be limited to small machine mods or even small machines, say like a toolpost spindle, plus of course the usual tooling, workholding and techniques.

We hope you will understand better when we get all the correct headings sorted out in the near future.

Please bear with us on this and don't go making rash decisions or comments at any time in the near future, we have to do everything in our power to keep the majority happy.

John
