R & B Cylinder mounting
« on: June 14, 2014, 09:32:07 PM »
Could anyone who has previously built this engine offer a bit of advice? I have just got to the stage of mounting the cylinder onto the main base and the drawing says the position of the stud holes is 'to be determined on assembly'.
The Model Engineer actually gives a dimension that the top of the piston should be down the bore at TDC by 0.325" including the jacket thickness.
Now, is this dimension to the actual 'top' of the piston or to the top of the piston dish?
Any clarification very much appreciated.

Lofty 76,
As far as can remember when I built my R&B many years ago, I took the wording to mean that distance between the cylinder head and the very top of the piston when at TDC. This measurement would include the cylinder jacket and any gaskets fitted.
I fitted my engine with a 12" flywheel and is a good powerful engine running on propane.
Hope this helps.
