Miniature Ford 300 inline six (video)
« on: May 09, 2014, 06:57:11 PM »
Gentlemen,
The engine is running. Having been away for almost 5 weeks I was in a rush to get it running for the NAMES show but that didn't happen. My apologies to those fellows that came to the show to see it running. This is the second running. I fired it up earlier in the week but had a few adjustment and modifications to make.
It seems like the air bleed hole in the carb needs to be a little bigger because it takes too much adjustment on the main needle to go from idle to high speed.
So far everything seems to be working well. It looks like it will need a different seal in the timing cover because it leaks a little.
Here's the link to the Youtube video.

You have outdone yourself George!!!  That is one beautiful little engine and sounds as good as it looks. Congratulations on yet another project that most of us can only aspire to!!

Wow - what a great runner and it's beautiful too :praise2:  :praise2:  :praise2:

One tiny detail - it appears that you should consider copper washers under the sparkplugs like on the full size engines - it looks like "air bubbles" around the leftmost plug.

It sounds like you're very close to perfection on the ignition timing and with the carburettor - it idles well and pickup revs quickly -  :NotWorthy:  :praise2:  :NotWorthy:

That’s outstanding; I'm so envious of your talent.  How long have you been working on this project?

George,

That's truly wonderful.  I'm intrigued that what appears to be a simple R/C plane type carb is so successful on a complex engine.

Very nicely done  :praise2:

Thanks fellows for the comments,
Rod, over the years I have built and tried almost every type of carburetor and the ones that seem to work best are the simple air bleed type. It takes a little experimentation with the air bleed size for each particular engine but once that's sorted out they run very well.
I noticed the front plug bubbling a little in the video. It's funny how when photographing something all the warts pop out. Presently I don't have any washers on the plugs but I'm going to make some annealed copper washers. That should do the trick.
