MEM Logo Shirts?
« on: February 27, 2014, 04:04:29 PM »
I was thinking...
Why not have some shirts created with the MEM logo on them? Theses could be worn by the members here to various shows & events. The Cabin Fever thread got me thinking about this.

I understand there is alot more involved with this, but just wanted to pitch the idea.

The easy way would be creating a standard image and anybody could use a local shop to make theirs.

Also easy to get a mug printed as well.

(Which is the origin of my avatar.  The favourite breakfast mug of Mrs Tangler got.. er.. broken  :-[.  A bit of CAD work and the JPEG was sent over the internet)

All the elements are there at the top of page, I guess we just need the hi-res versions to combine in a suitable arrangement.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Use the logo on the home page. If the source artwork is available & can be shared in an electronic format, it could be shared..

It would make a nice coffee mug..pint glass...

Sites like http://www.cafepress.com will do mugs, shirts etc from uploaded artwork. I think they may even print on demand (i.e. no minimum).

Shirt logos look best if they are nice simple artwork with clean lines. I fear the MEM logo will look a bit fuzzy when scaled down and printed on a shirt.

Good point Simon.

Wasn't the logo the ""MEM Corliss" that was built & documented" here? If it was, I think some of of the members recreated the models & drawings in 3D CAD. If they were, a crisp, clear, line drawing could be used for the artwork. If anyone of those folks could share a drawing..
I use Pro-Engineer CAD 3D software. If I can get "step (.stp) files, I would be more than happy to do them.

I have some printable iron-on decals and some plain white shirts I was going to use for something else, and I never used them. You can get the transfers at a Staples or Office Depot. I'm not sure how they turn out or how well they stay after washing, but it's worth a try. Should be a lot cheaper than silk screening in small quantity, and should allow for customized individual shirts with names and images of projects and such. Even if there were shirts mass produced with the MEM logo (which may be copyrighted), the individual custom prints could be added.

Yes, TurboCAD is what I have been using since probably 1996 or so when I finally started using Windows and my MSDOS Generic CADD that I had been using since 1987 or so became obsolete and sold to Autodesk. I'm now using TC Pro version 15.2 and I'm very pleased with it. I used it to make the artwork for some team T-shirts for our Captain Morgan volleyball team.
