Hullo :)
« on: February 22, 2014, 01:47:50 PM »
Hi Chaps

My name is Jim and I'm a quality engineer  from the UK. I qualified in motorsport engineering to begin with, which gave me an introduction to machining. I now have access to a modest machine shop at my current place of work and will be making things to keep me busy in my lunch times.

Welcome to MEM Jim.  What sorts of engines or projects interest you most? And please remember to take your camera to work for those lunchtime work sessions...we love pictures!!  Good to have you on board.

Welcome Jim!

That sort of things will you be making?

Hi Bill (And Steve - I've not worked out how to multiquote on here yet)

Real steam is what I'm really interested in. Once I've got the Elmer 33 running on air I'm going to try to build a nice boiler. I will do my best to take lots of pictures - I had a WIP thread for a simple oscillator on another forum, but as I got closer to completing I got more excited and less photos were taken! I want to concentrate on quality now so I will be taking my time - and should be able to remember to take pictures! After the mill engine, well I like the idea of a hit & miss engine, but that's a long way away.

 :hi: Jim,

Sounds like you have a good range of interests in model engines. A few of us find our model making a bit hit and miss

Hi Everyone,

I know this is a necro but this is the most appropriate place I could think to post without creating a new thread.

Some may have noticed I haven't been around for a while, I was made redundant in August and no longer have access to any machines. I just wanted to pop in really to say why I've not been posting, and to thank everyone for being such fantastic, lovely people. I was made to feel very welcome here and the help & advice I have been given here is more than I could ever ask for.

I hope you're all doing well, and it's not been too cold in the sheds :)

Again, thanks so much.

Jim

[edit] my 200th post, how funny!

Good to see you Jim. Don't be a stranger....just because you don't have access to machines at the moment doesn't mean you can't still contribute!!

Jim,

Sorry you were made redundant and have lost access to your machines - stay positive and I'm sure something will turn up.  If there is any way you think I might be able to help please let me know.

Cheers,

Simon.

Thanks both,

I don't think this will be the last of my machining, but perhaps for a while. I'll try not to be a stranger,  I intend to follow up on a few builds I was reading before I got the axe!
