My one and only completed engine
« on: July 21, 2012, 08:11:56 PM »
This is the sole engine I've completed.  Many will recognize it as Philip Duclos' Tospy Turvy.
I built it from the plans and narrative (very helpful for a noob like me) in the book: "Two Shop
Masters, Frank McLean, and Philip Duclos".  In my book there is an error in the plans - the hole
& threads where the muffler attaches to the exhaust valve body are mismatched.

Nice engine!

It's really easy to add pictures from Flickr. On the Flickr page, click the "Share button" just above the photo. The "Grab the HTML/BBCode" should be expanded already. Just select the text there, copy, then paste into your post.

Thanks Dave & Simon.    "Hammer-tone" paint hides a multitude of "sins" ;-)

Simon, thank you for the info for embedding images.  I got it!

DaveH,

It was the narrative by Phil Duclos that allowed me to build the engine. The book has lots of photos of setups, and Mr. Duclos gives step-by-step guidance on how to machine each part - very helpful to a "noob" like me.  The gears, and fasteners were bought - the rest was built from bar stock.  I deviated from the plans, which called for pressing the cylinder into the body.  My cylinder fit ended up being way too loose for a press-fit, so I soldered the cylinder in place.

Hi Bill, your engine looks great. For a first attempt, I would say you did an outstanding job. I have the Duclos'  books also and he was quite a guy. The amount of work he put into his engines and the fact he shared them with us has to be admired. Dave

Nick, Dave G, & Doc,

Thanks guys.
I did make a very poor quality video tape of it running (bad lighting).  Not sure if I still have that tape.   I need to make a base to mount it on, and then make a new video.
