Old Weeden steam engines
« on: July 21, 2012, 02:48:39 AM »
I purchased 8 old weeden engines thrown in a box all had various things wrong with them. The one in this video I replaced flywheel shaft control screw and sight glass and the safety pressure release. The sight glass was broken in all of them I have since replaced them and have gotten 4 of them to run pretty well again. I didn't want to polish and clean them up as I wanted the old look.
I need yet to make some original looking burners for them I have found pictures of some original burners and some day plan on making them. Anyway here is the vid of the first steam up of the first one I fixed up.

Here is vid of three of them running on compressed air regulated down to about 5 psi. I did get 4 of them repaired to the point on running before putting the other 4 in a box for a rainy day. I do like these old little engines I gave one of them to my father-in-law and he was pretty happy with it.

I didn't know you were into the old toy steamers, George.  I have a few myself, including a couple of Weedens.
Thanks for the vids!

I always wanted a old toy steam engine then I seen someone had 8 old engines for sale in a what you see is what you get. Plus it was for what I thought was an excellent price.
None of them were in any shape to run but I felt I was capable of getting at least one to run from the bunch so I took the chance. The price I paid I would of easily paid for one running unit. After receiving them I think I'll be able to get all 8 of them to running state. You'll notice I didn't do much polishing as I like the old look.
If things work out I'll have one extra boiler shell from the group and I'm hoping to use it for the walking beam engine I built.
I do love old iron no matter what size!

George, there is a fellow I know named Frank Campbell who has a nice website devoted to Weeden engines.
He has most of the models they made displayed there so folks can identify their engines, and he also has
a small selection of repair parts for Weedens.  If you're interested, have a look at this site:

http://weedensteam.com/store.html

He's a nice guy, and I've ordered parts from him a few times.
