I've owned this lathe for 20+ years and figured it was time to make a follower rest for turning long thin shafts. These are scarce and fetch big bucks, turning up infrequently. I snagged the picture of what it should look like from the lathes dot com site and reverse engineered it. The lathe did come with a steady rest which I use every now and then. The steady is made from cast iron while I opted to make the follower from aluminum thinking it would have adequate ridgidity for small shafts. This lathe was purchased at auction when the local votech school sold off surplus equipment prior to moving to a larger building here in the northeast US.
