Ernst Plank Hercules

(1/1)

Hanst:
Hi, I’ve acquired a relatively well-preserved Ernst Plank Hercules steam engine. However, it has a period modification that I really don’t like. I’d like to ask for your opinion or advice on what to do with it.

The solutions I’m considering are:

Add a glass tube to the water level indicator and leave everything as a period modification.
Remove the fittings, clean it up, and replace the water level indicator in the style of Plank models (I would appreciate details of the water gauge from a Plank model—thread dimensions of the fittings, diameter of the glass tube, and a detailed photo).
Carefully remove the fittings, plug the holes, and retouch the surface.

Thank you in advance for your opinions and advice.

Are you familiar with the various collector forums?

One that I look at sometimes is Office of Steam Forum https://www.officeofsteamforum.com/

Lots of folks there with opinions on what you should do with a model like this.
