3. International Model Engines Swap Meet

(1/2) > >>

Roger B:
I visited the MECA Swap Meet near Manheim in Germany. It took place at the premises of an air compressor company on an industrial estate, so it was possible to run some of the engines. The H&S considerations seem rather different to those I have seen in the pictures of the Guildford show.

There was a good selection of engines, both on display and for sale. As usual the background to most of the pictures is rather messy. I have included a few short clips of some of the engines running.

Roger B:
The big V10 ran well as did the W9 engine however with a lot of blue smoke. Almost all the engines were rather oily. I had to clean the film off my glasses before driving home  ::)

There was a 6 inline BMW as well as the V12, but it was not run.

The Auto Union V16 looks to be a fine challenge

Roger B:

The Wall 4 cylinder ran very quietly and smoothly compared to most of the other exhibits.

The Cosworth DFV (yours for EUR 8000) had a very simplified fuel spray system and a very oily exhaust

Daniel had his EFI VR5 on display but it wouldn’t run due to some electrical problems. It is using cut down Honda injectors designed for a 150cc engine. The fuel is fed at around 1 bar, the fuel pressure being set by a variable speed electric pump with an adjustable leak back to the tank. The injection period is set for each cylinder individually and is around 6mS.
The carburetted version built by his friend did run

There was a lot of diving memorabilia around the display area.

Roger B:
There were a couple of model aircraft that were also ground run as well as full size items.

The tail is strapped to the fence post for safety.

Mike R:
Thanks for showing that Roger, that looks like an excellent event, I am rather jealous that you were able to attend.  I'm a few thousand km's and an ocean away so no so convenient for me.
I especially like the selection of multi cylinder auto and aircraft engines, absolutely jaw dropping stuff.
