Another Tangye restoration
Sanjay F:
I recently restored a Bassett Loake Tangye engine and I now have another Tangye model in need of attention which I believe was not made by BL. This one needs quite a bit doing to it with several major components missing such as the crankshaft (which is currently a bolt!), the flywheel, the outrigger bearing and mount.
I think this is a very good representation of the actual full size engines if you look at the photos below and am also thinking about a pickering type governor, but let's see......
So far I have managed to find an appropriate flywheel which needs machining to size and have found a photo of the outrigger and mount

That will definitely be another beautiful engine when you're finished. The two pictures with the original engines show many interesting extras.

This looks quite similar to the twin tangye that Keith Appleton did a series on some years ago.
I'd be tempted to make the outrigger with the same angled split line as the one on the main frame, you do see them like that.

Thanks both, lot's to consider and decide, do I make it more like the original model or the original full size engine; at the moment I'm thinking the latter especially with so many bits missing.
It always intrigues what has happened to these engines before I get them; I started making the crankshaft and noticed the disc crank has no method of locking it onto the shaft - how is that? I have now secured it to the new shaft adjusted the valve and piston travel and have some manual rotation - early, early stages! :D

Maybe a press fit?
