I scored a vintage machined Stuart Sirius kit

(1/3) > >>

smfr:
I bought what was described as a Sirius "casting kit" off of eBay; on unpacking, it turns out it's a machined kit, from around 1975/1976. Well, that takes some of the fun out of it, but how rare is it to find a machined Sirius kit from that era?

Edit: the way the parts were wrapped in brown paper, secured with brown paper tape makes me pretty sure that it shipped from Stuart machined, rather than being someone's project.

Nice find!  Did it include the drawings? If so, you could try a bar stock build from them so you'd have two Sirius engines! Or take measurements from the parts in the kit...

Sanjay F:
Well I bet that was a surprise when you opened it! I've looked on the Stuart website and you can't buy the Sirius as a machined kit today, but you could definitley in the past, but not sure when they stopped doing it. Their machined kits today are crazy money  ::)

Good luck with the build and will be nice to see the engine

smfr:
Yes, it came with drawings and the original parts list. The original Stuart label is on the box. Neither say "machined".

The main casting has the anti-rust red paint on it.

Dave Otto:
To heck with the engine, I’m glad to see that you are still around. I always enjoyed your projects.
